Lymphatism: emotional and spiritual meaning
Updated
What lymphatism is
Lymphatism is an old description, not a diagnosis you will often hear now. It was characterised by an anaemic pallor, a softness of the tissues and a fine skin. Today those signs are taken one by one. Pallor may be anaemia. Softness and exhaustion may be thyroid disease, depression, a chronic infection, or a life with too little food, iron or sleep. A limb that swells is looked at as lymphoedema, which has its own causes, including surgery and cancer treatment. The point of a modern visit is to find which of these, if any, is present. A word from an older book does not settle it.
The emotional reading below is about drive, boundaries and a harsh judgement of yourself. Swollen lymph nodes are the louder sign of the same system. The lymph page asks which feeling has been held past the point of circulating.
The emotional meaning of lymphatism
You lack strength and rigour. You avoid doing yourself violence. You do nothing. You show a letting-slide, a lack of audacity and of vitality. You find no motivation in life, and you feel useless. You let other people invade your life, because you find it hard to mark the edge of your vital space and to have it respected.
Not accepting yourself often has its origin in situations where you judged yourself severely. Lymphatism shows how you need to be reconciled with yourself. It is a sign that you have to take yourself in hand, move, and make things advance, so that energy circulates and you leave this lethargy, which leads you to do less and less and to sink further into negativism.
A gentler way to hold it
You take your momentum back. You choose to give joy to those who need it, by small gestures, and you feel more useful, which makes you appreciate yourself more. The gestures are small on purpose. A lecture about laziness helps no one who is anaemic or depressed. A boundary and a blood test can both be the honest next move.
- Have pallor and exhaustion investigated. The old name covers several real illnesses.
- Mark one edge of your space. Other people invade where the limit was never said.
- Ask where the self-judgement started. Reconciliation is the aim the reading names.
- Make one small move that circulates something. Less and less is the slope.
- Offer one small joy, and notice whether usefulness returns with it. Appreciation of yourself is allowed to be modest.
- Do not call a child, or a depressed person, lacking in audacity. That judgement is the opposite of the reconciliation this picture asks for.
Questions to ask yourself
Take your time with these. There are no right answers; simply notice what comes up.
- Where have I lost motivation, and started to feel useless?
- Who is invading my life because I cannot mark the edge of it?
- Where did I judge myself so severely that I stopped accepting who I am?
- What small move would start energy circulating again?
- Which joy could I give, in a small gesture, that would also let me appreciate myself?
- Am I doing less and less, and calling the slide realism?
“I take my momentum back. I choose a small gesture of joy, and I appreciate myself a little more for being useful in a way that is mine.”
When to see a doctor
- Pallor, exhaustion, swollen nodes, or a limb that stays swollen. "Lymphatism" is not a modern diagnosis. Anaemia, thyroid disease, heart failure, infection and lymphoedema have their own tests and treatments.
- Breathlessness, chest pain, fainting, or a swelling that comes on quickly. Seek urgent care.
- A child who is unusually pale, sweaty or limp. Have them seen. Do not explain it as a lack of audacity.
- Swelling after cancer treatment. That needs the team who know your history.
- Low mood with slowing down can be depression, which is treatable. A reading about laziness is not an assessment.
- Movement helps many people who feel sluggish. It does not replace a blood test when the pallor is new.
