**In short**

Heat stroke is a dangerous rise in body temperature when the body can no longer cool itself. Spiritually, it is read as an urgent need for love that does not reach you, guilt tied to low self-esteem, and a search for warmth outside yourself.

## What heat stroke is

Heat illness happens when the body takes in more heat than it can get rid of. It usually starts as heat exhaustion: heavy sweating, a [**headache**](https://www.body-hemisync.com/head/headaches), dizziness, nausea, cramps, intense thirst, a fast pulse and a raised temperature. Heat exhaustion is not usually serious if the person cools down within about 30 minutes.

Heatstroke is the emergency stage. The body's cooling system fails and the temperature climbs to 40°C or more. The skin can become hot and dry, and the person may be confused, collapse, have a fit or lose consciousness. Without fast treatment it can damage the brain, heart and kidneys.

It can follow long hours in strong sun, sport or hard work in the heat, a heatwave, a stuffy, badly ventilated room, a hot car, or heating turned up too high. Babies, young children, older people, people with long-term conditions and people on some medicines are most at risk. The care is simple and urgent: move to somewhere cool, lie down with the feet raised, drink water or a rehydration drink, cool the skin with water and a fan, and put cold packs around the armpits and neck. If heatstroke is suspected, call for help straight away.

## The emotional meaning of heat stroke

Spiritually, heat has two faces. It can be love, when more energy circulates and the body heals. It can also be [**anger**](https://www.body-hemisync.com/emotions/anger), when it flares as a [**fever**](https://www.body-hemisync.com/whole-body/fever) or a [**burn**](https://www.body-hemisync.com/skin/burns). Heat stroke belongs to the first family, but in the form of a lack: a body overwhelmed by a warmth it was looking for.

### An urgent need for love

Heat stroke is read as [**guilt**](https://www.body-hemisync.com/emotions/guilt) about love, joined to low self-esteem. You need to love and to be loved, and you cannot find the way to do it. There is an inner emptiness you do not know how to fill, and a dissatisfaction that will not settle. Your whole body seems to say that the need for love has become urgent.

### Affection that does not reach you

The affection may be there, close by, and yet it never quite reaches you. It can be parents who live nearby but show no sign of tenderness, or a partner who is present but distant. You may compensate in other ways, for example by staying a long time in the sun, which gives a comfort that does not last.

### Do I deserve this?

When the heat comes from too much sun, often on holiday, a gentle question appears: do I truly believe I deserve this rest? Falling asleep in the sun or misjudging the time can be an accident, and nothing more. Spiritually, it can also point to guilt that makes it hard to enjoy good things without paying for them. The skin is where your inner life meets your outer life, and there may be frustration that life on the outside is not what you would like it to be inside. The strength of the burn or the heat stroke is read as a measure of a certain despair.

## The sun as a father figure

Spiritually, the sun stands for the father. Too much sun can be read as an unconscious search for a father who felt distant, or who was missing when you were young. Because the father is usually linked with authority, you may now tend to put your own power and authority in someone else's hands. You follow rather than decide, and you feel at the mercy of events. [**Fear**](https://www.body-hemisync.com/emotions/fear) can be stronger than frustration, so it feels safer to stay still.

There can also be a habit of running yourself down: not good-looking enough, not clever enough, never quite enough. That inner criticism makes other people's criticism sound louder. Pulling away from others then becomes the way you protect yourself from pain.

## A gentler way to hold it

- **Look at your self-esteem.** Ask what you value in yourself, and write it down. Recognise who you are and give yourself your real worth.
- **Look back gently.** A situation from childhood that touched you may be surfacing now. Name it, without rushing to solve it.
- **Let the love that is there reach you.** Notice the people who do show care, and let yourself take it in.
- **Take back your power.** Choose one decision you have been leaving to others, and make it yourself.
- **Enjoy without guilt.** Rest, holidays and good times are allowed. You do not have to earn them by suffering.
- **Find the sun inside.** Let your own heart warm and calm you in hard moments, so the sun does not have to beat down on you to remind you to take your place.

## **Questions to ask yourself**

Take your time with these. There are no right answers; simply notice what comes up.

- Do I feel that the love around me never quite reaches me?
- Is there guilt in me about love, about receiving it or deserving it?
- Do I really believe I deserve this rest, this holiday, this good time?
- Where do I look outside myself for the warmth I need?
- Was there a parent, perhaps my father, who felt distant when I was young?
- In which part of my life have I put my power in someone else's hands?

## **When to see a doctor**

**Please seek medical advice if you notice:**

- Signs of heatstroke, such as a temperature of 40°C or above, hot skin that is no longer sweating, confusion, fast breathing, a fit or loss of consciousness. Call emergency services and keep cooling the person while you wait.
- Signs of heat exhaustion (headache, dizziness, heavy sweating, cramps, nausea, intense thirst) that do not improve after 30 minutes of rest in a cool place with fluids. Call emergency services.
- A baby, a young child, an older person or someone with a heart, lung or kidney condition who seems unwell in the heat. Get help early, as they are at higher risk.
- If you take regular medicines, ask a pharmacist or doctor how to stay safe in hot weather. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.
- Severe sunburn with blisters, fever, chills or feeling very unwell.

## **Related conditions**

**Fainting**

Spiritually, fainting is often linked to a moment when life feels like too much, when inner panic and the loss of hope make you withdraw from the world, and to a habit of following what others expect rather than your own inner voice.

**Headaches**

Headaches are often read as a sign of mental overload. Too much thinking, self-criticism and a need to control everything can build pressure in the head when the heart is not being heard.

**Burns**

Spiritually, a burn is often linked to strong feelings that burn inside, such as anger, sorrow or despair, held back and turned against yourself as guilt, and to a call to slow down and come back to the present.

[Burns](https://www.body-hemisync.com/skin/burns)

**Fever**

Spiritually, fever is often linked to emotions that burn, irritation and anger that have built up until they fill the whole body, and a pause you have not allowed yourself any other way.

**Sweating and body odour**

Spiritually, sweating and body odour are often linked to emotions held back that overflow through the skin, such as irritation, anger and shame, and to nervousness and a fear of being criticised or rejected.
