## **Conditions**

Explore the emotional reading of each kidneys and urinary system condition.

### **Kidneys**

Kidney problems and stones, often linked to fear, old emotions that harden, and the need to know what is yours.

**Kidney problems**

Kidney problems are often read as fear that has not been said, and as old emotions the filter has stopped clearing. The kidneys are called the seat of fear.

**Kidney stones**

Kidney stones are often read as emotions that have hardened: fear, aggressive feelings and everything that was calculated in advance so that nothing could surprise you.

### **Bladder**

Bladder and urinary infections, often linked to anger, bitterness and frustration in close relationships.

**Cystitis**

Cystitis is often read as anger that has accumulated and burns on the way out. Bitterness, resentment and frustration in a close or sexual relationship are the feelings the source names.

## **Linked emotions**

Feelings the source links with this part of the body. They are not tied to one condition.

**Fear**

Fear is often read as a power you have handed away. The heart races, the kidneys are called its seat, and what you dread can start to organise your life.

The kidneys sit on either side of the spine and filter the blood. They clear waste into the urine, help balance fluids and salts, and take part in blood pressure and the making of red blood cells. The bladder stores urine until it leaves. When this system is inflamed, blocked or no longer filtering well, it needs a doctor. Stones, infections and kidney failure are medical events.

In the emotional approach, the kidneys are known as the seat of fear. They are also read as a filter for old emotions. Urine, in this reading, is what you no longer need and can let leave.

This page offers a symbolic and emotional perspective. It is meant to complement medical care, never to replace it. Blood in the urine, severe side pain, fever or a sudden drop in how much you pass all need a doctor. In an emergency, call emergency services.

## What your kidneys represent

The source compares the kidneys to a balance. They match what enters with what leaves. Figuratively, they clear the body of what pollutes it: old anger, old sorrow, ideas that have stayed too long. When the inner relationship is good, the kidneys are said to work well. They stand for stability, discernment and balance.

A problem here is often read as holding on. Old emotional patterns are retained. Negative feelings ask to be freed and are not. Partnership is often out of tune. You feel vulnerable and look outside yourself for balance. Sexuality can become a way of leaving your problems. You wait for other people to make you happy. You feel emptied of strength.

The two kidneys also stand for collaboration, because they have to work together. The source asks how things are with your partner. Are you making them responsible for everything that hurts? Are you pouring your waste onto other people? Or are you clinging to the past until you are worn out and off balance?

## Common emotional themes

### Fear that is not said

When the kidneys weaken, the source looks for a fear you do not want to express, or do not want to admit to yourself. Discernment goes with it. You feel involved in situations that are not actually yours. Kidney trouble is often placed after an accident or a shock in which you feared you might die.

In French, *rein* sits next to *rien*, "nothing". The source uses that closeness for the feeling of standing in front of nothing: everything lost, the world fallen in, happiness gone from the family, vitality gone. You fear you cannot face life, so you cut yourself off from what you feel.

### What hardens, and what will not leave

Old emotions most often show, in this reading, as kidney stones. You keep making calculations, and the French word for a stone is the same as the word for a calculation: what is mine, and what might I lose? You are afraid of being broken, of someone "breaking your back" in the sense of breaking your career, your means. You set limits so as not to lose a centimetre.

Unexpressed sadness can solidify over time when an anxious, insecure situation, emotional or financial, is not let go of. Anger then takes the sadness and freezes it, instead of letting it flow like water in a stream. You feel like a boat that has run aground.

### Liquid, money and the fear of lacking

If the kidneys stop filtering, the source reads the body as trying to keep as much liquid as it can, from fear of losing it or of running short. It asks whether some fear was tied to a liquid: a near-drowning, a toxic drink you almost swallowed, or money, because people speak of "liquid" cash and of "liquidating" debts. A judgement passed on someone who had to clear their debts can sit in the same place. The collecting tubes are touched, in this reading, when you feel you are fighting for your existence.

### Authority, or the inability to choose

You may live at an extreme. Very authoritarian, with a strong taste for criticism. Or the opposite: submissive, indecisive, powerless, disappointment after disappointment. Life feels unfair. Decisions are hard. It is hard to tell what is good for you from what you should let leave, and hard to tell truth from illusion.

## Caring for your kidneys from the inside

The idea is not to blame yourself. Infections, stones, blood pressure, diabetes, medicines and many medical factors play a real role in kidney and bladder problems. The emotional perspective adds another question: *what fear, or what old feeling, am I refusing to let leave?*

A few gentle practices can support this inner work:

- **Name the fear.** A fear you will not admit to yourself is the one this reading keeps returning to.
- **Let one old feeling move.** Anger or sorrow that stays becomes, in this picture, what hardens.
- **Stop the calculations.** Ask what you are afraid of losing, without turning the whole day into a balance sheet.
- **Take your life back from other people.** The source asks you to stop blaming them and to assume your own choices.
- **Collaborate.** Partnership, in this reading, is two kidneys that have to work together.
- **Drink, and get the pain checked.** Water and a doctor are part of looking after this system. The meaning does not replace either.

## **Questions to ask yourself**

Take your time with these. There are no right answers; simply notice what comes up.

- What fear am I holding that I have not said, even to myself?
- Which old anger or sorrow am I still filtering, instead of letting it leave?
- Am I making constant calculations about what I might lose?
- How is my partnership right now, and am I pouring my difficulties onto the other person?
- Where do I swing between being harsh and being unable to decide?
- What would it mean to let an emotion flow, the way water leaves a river?

## **When to see a doctor**

**Please seek medical advice if you notice:**

- No urine, or very little, for several hours, especially with pain, swelling or feeling very unwell. Seek urgent care.
- Blood in the urine.
- Severe pain in the side or back that comes in waves, with or without vomiting. This can be a kidney stone.
- Fever, shivering and pain in the back or side. This can be a kidney infection.
- Burning when you pass urine, with a frequent urgent need to go, especially with fever or pain in the side.
- Swollen ankles, breathlessness or unusual tiredness if you already have kidney disease.
