## What fear is

Fear is the apprehension of a danger, real or imagined. The heart races. The body tenses. That reaction is useful when the danger is real and brief. It becomes a problem when the danger is not there, or when fear starts to decide your days: what you avoid, what you check, what you will not risk. Panic attacks are fear that has overrun reason. They deserve medical care.

The reading below does not replace that care. It looks at what the fear is protecting, and what power it has taken.

## The emotional meaning of fear

Fear takes its place when you feel worried, unsure of yourself, discouraged, or very emotional. Its object may be failure, abandonment, rejection, or the fear of being hurt. It becomes so real to your eyes that the whole body reacts, and the kidneys in particular. The source calls them the seat of fear. The sign you can feel at once is the heart, which pounds.

### Fear that invites what it dreads

The source says fear only increases the chance that what you apprehend will arrive. Fear of illness itself can play a part in illness appearing. That is not a verdict, and it is not a reason to skip a doctor. It is a warning that the fear can start to run the show. Your fears control your life, not the people or the situations. If something happened, that thing, or someone else, would be in control. Being afraid shows that you have let your power go.

### Six fears the source names

Take these as questions, not as a complete list:

- **Fear of dying.**
- **Fear of illness.**
- **Fear of poverty.**
- **Fear of losing the love of someone dear.**
- **Fear of old age.**
- **Fear of criticism.**

When fear controls your reason, panic attacks can follow. You can no longer be neutral or detached from what you are living. You stay off balance, inwardly vulnerable. You are centred more on what others expect than on your own needs. You lose your reference points, and sometimes feel you are going mad.

The source says fear shows you the part of life where more love is needed. It points to the emotional conflict to settle, so that love, wisdom and freedom have a way back.

## A gentler way to hold it

The aim is not to shame yourself for being afraid. Fear is a signal. The emotional perspective invites you to see who is actually in charge of the moment: you, or the fear.

- **Feel the heart, then name the fear.** A racing heart is information. The name of the fear is the next step.
- **Take the power back.** Ask what you handed to the danger, or to another person, the moment you became afraid.
- **Look at the six.** One of them is usually louder than the others.
- **Put love where the fear is pointing.** The source treats fear as a sign of where love is missing, not as an identity.
- **If it is panic, get help.** Trust is an inner direction. A panic attack is also a body event.
